Established in 1958, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Jawaharlal Nehru Academy of Languages is on of the oldest institutions in the Capital City offering intensive courses in foreign languages. Qualified and experienced teachers coach students to acquire proficiency in the following seven major foreign languages to certificate and diploma levels.

| Duration of Courses : |
FRENCH, SPANISH, CHINESE AND JAPANESE : Two-Years courses divided into 4 semesters of 5 months each. There will be an examination at the end of each semester in December/May. Students coming out successful in the examination after the second Semester will be awarded the Certificates. Those who pass the examination held after the fourth semester will be awarded Diploma. Emphasis is given in Conversation and Translation in 3rd and 4th Semesters.

ARABIC & RUSSIAN : One-Years courses divided into two semesters of 5 months each. There will be an examination at the end of each semester in December/May. Students passing out at the end of the Second Semester will be awarded the Certificates.

GERMAN : One semester intensive course, leading to admission at Max Mueller Bhavan for further study.
|
ENGLISH : One semester course giving emphasis on creative use of language and conversation.

| Personality - Grooming and Public-Speaking : (5 months Course : 4 Days a Week) |
At the level of BODY the emphasis is laid on:
- Appearance / looks.
- First Impression.
- Body Language.
- Dress-sense, Hair-style and related aspects of outer appearance.
- Social-etiquatte and manners.
- Voice.
At the level of MIND the emphasis is laid on:
- Assertiveness.
- Motivation.
- How to deal with difficult situations/emotional problems.
- Positive attitude.
- Time management.
- Public Speaking.
- Interview Skills
- Creative writing.
- Stress control
- Anger grip.
- Leadership qualities.
- Management techniques.
At the level of BODY the emphasis is laid on:
- Patience.
- Perseverance.
- Risking.
- Kindness.
- Encouragement.
- Self-esteem.
- Self-confidence.
CONDENSED COURSE - (2 months : 4 Days in a Week):-
Condensed courses of 1st Semester standard are conducted during summer (June-July) in FRENCH, CHINESE, GERMAN, JAPANESE & SPANISH. Students passing the examination in July can join Semester II in August.
Regular French Morning Class from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Evening Time: 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. |

| Tests and Examination : |
There will be periodical tests and a written examination at the end of each Semester. There will also be a viva-voce examination at the end of Semester I, II, III and IV of FRENCH AND JAPANESE. Viva –Voce for ARABIC, CHINESE, SPANISH, RUSSIAN and CHINESE will be at the end of Second Semester. For English written examination & viva will be held at the end of Semester.

Viva-Voce : |
Students are expected to pass the viva-voce separately to qualify for promotion to the next semester or the award of the Certificate/Diploma.

| Eligibility of Admission : |
- Person who passed the Senior Secondary School Examination or equivalent are eligible for admission. Classes start in January and August. The minimum number of students required for starting a language class would be 15.
- If in any Semester the minimum enrolment is not available, it is possible that the particular semester course may not be conducted. Fees collected will be refunded in full.

| Test and Grades : |
-
The minimum pass marks in all language courses will be 50% of the aggregate. Candidates securing 70% and above will be placed in the first Division. Those securing marks between 60% and 69% will be placed in the second Division. Minimum 65% attendance is required.

Classes in ENGLISH will be held on four days in a week from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. The duration of the course is five months.

| Time-Table of Classes : |
- The classes in French, Spanish, Japanese, Russian and Arabic are conducted twice a week from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 pm. Classes in German will be held five times a week from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Classes in English will be from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for 4 days a week. Suitable teaching aids and tools are employed.
- Arrangement also exists for morning classes in French Semester I & II generally for three days in a week from 7.30 a.m.

FEE LIABLE TO BE REVISED EACH SEMESTER :
- Fees once paid are not refundable. If the student has not attended any class, the fee will be refunded after deducting administration charges within one week from the commencement of the classes.
- Fees are to be deposited in the UCO Bank in the Bhavan's premises.
Timings : Weeks days 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Monday-Friday) and in Accounts section from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. Bank Draft should be in favour of BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVAN.

Application for admission to any of these language Courses should be made in the attached form and should reach the Director, Jawaharlal Nehru Academy of Languages, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi-1 along with the prescribed fee before the commencement of the course. Admission is on first-come- first- served basis.
