ESTABLISHED IN 1958, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Jawaharlal Nehru Academy of Languages is one of the oldest institutions in the Capital City offering intensive courses in foreign languages. The Academy has celebrated its Golden jubilee on 5th April, 2008 with Sh. Shiv Shankar Menon, Foreign Secretary, Govt. of India, as Chief Guest.Qualified and experienced teachers coach students to acquire proficiency in the following major foreign languages from certificate to higher diploma levels.

| Duration of Courses : |
FRENCH, SPANISH, AND CHINESE JAPANESE : 3-Years courses divided into 6 semesters of 5 months each / Japanese 2 year 4 Semesters / German 1 year 2 Semesters / Arabic 1 year 2 Semesters / Russian 1 year 2 Semesters. There will be an examination at the end of each semester in December/May. Students coming out successful in the examination after the second Semester will be awarded Certificates. Those who pass the examination held after the fourth semester will be awarded Diplomas. Emphasis is given in Conversation and Translation in 3rd and 4th Semesters.

INTENSIVE COURSE IN TRANSLATION AND CONVERSATION IN CHINESE, & FRENCH : This course is offered to those who have completed one year French, Spanish and Chinese Courses, to enable the candidates acquire mastery in speaking and Literature. The students of this course can simultaneously be students in higher semesters, i.e. Students of 3rd and 4th Semesters can be students of intensive speaking course.

ARABIC & RUSSIAN : One-Years course of two Semesters of 5 months each. There will be an examination at the end of each semester in December/May. Students passing out at the end of the Second Semester will be awarded Certificates.

GERMAN : 2 Semesters of 5 months each leading to higher students in Max Muller Bhavan.

CREATIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN ENGLISH : Five Months course giving emphasis on creative use of language and conversation, and to develop confidence in dealing with the language.

ADVANCED ENGLISH AND CREATIVE WRITING :
Course will comprise of 4 papers:
- Spoken English Skills:
- to develop fluency in spoken English.
- understand more informal idiomatic and phrasal expressions.
- prepare for job-interviews and group discussions etc.
- Creative - Writing:
- to develop ideas and plots, characters and settings.
- explore imagination.
- write articles for media.
- anchoring and presentation etc.
- Development of Soft-Skills:
- for presentation.
- Conducting Interviews and Talk-Shows.
- Customer care.
- Time management etc.
- Business Communication:
- to provide a clearer and more professional service ot the customers on line.
- Writing business letters, e-mails, fax etc.
- Conducting meetings, preparing agenda, minutes, briefing and lecturing.
- Report writing etc.

| SUMMER COURSES (June & July) |
First Semester - (2 months : 4 Days in a Week):-
Intensive courses of 1st Semester standard are conducted during summer (June-July) in FRENCH, CHINESE, JAPANESE & SPANISH. Students passing the examination in July can join the regular IInd semester in August.
French Morning Class from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
French Evening Class from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Other languages Evening: 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. |

| Tests and Examination : |
There will be periodical tests and a written examination at the end of each Semester. There will also be a viva-voce examination at the end of Semester I, II, III and IV of FRENCH, JAPANESE, and Advanced FRENCH. Viva Voce for ARABIC, CHINESE, SPANISH, and RUSSIAN will be at the end of Second Semester. For English written examination & viva will be held at the end of Semester.

Viva-Voce : (50 Marks) |
Students are expected to pass the viva-voce separately to qualify for promotion to the next semester or the award of the Certificate/Diploma.

| Eligibility of Admission : |
- Persons who have passed the Senior Secondary School Examination or equivalent are eligible for admission. Classes start in January and August. The minimum number of students required for starting a language class would be 15.
- If in any Semester the minimum enrolment is not available, it is possible that in the particular semester that Course may not be conducted. Fees collected will be refunded in full.

| Test and Grades : |
- The minimum pass marks in all language courses will be 50% of the aggregate. 40% in the written examination is compulsory. Candidates securing 70% and above will be placed in the first Division. Those securing marks between 60% and 69% will be placed in the second Division. Minimum 65% attendance is necessary.
- Classes in ENGLISH will be held on four days in a week from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. The duration of the course is five months.

| Time-Table for Classes : |
- The classes in French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Arabic are conducted twice a week from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 pm. Classes in German will be held five times a week from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Classes in English will be from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for 4 days a week. Suitable teaching aids and tools are employed.
- Arrangement also exists for morning classes in French Semester I & VI generally for two days in a week from 7.30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

FEE LIABLE TO BE REVISED EACH SEMESTER :
- Fees once paid are not refundable. If the student has not attended any class, the fee will be refunded after deducting administration charges of 10% within one week from the commencement of the classes.
- Fees are to be deposited in the UCO Bank in the Bhavan's premises.
Timings : Weeks days 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday-Friday) and from 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. in accounts Section (Monday-Friday).

Admission is on first-come- first- served basis.
