Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Certified Courses in KATHAK & Vocal Music

(under the guidance and supervision of Kathak Maestro Padmashri Guru Shovana Narayan)
Introduction

Indian classical performing arts is one of the strong pillars that preserves, promotes and disseminates the values and ethos and values of Indian Culture, philosophy and heritage. Breathing the ‘ashtayam’ aspects of Patanjali’s yoga, it enables development of a healthy mind, body, spirit and empowers sustainable development. Committed to similar vision and mission by its founding fathers, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Delhi Kendra, has expanded its activities to include training in Kathak and Hindustani Classical Music under renowned maestros, Padmashri Guru Shovana Narayan and Ustad Imran Khan in association with the Asavari Centre for Kathak.

Aim of the Training

Kathak Maestro Padmashri Guru Shovana Narayan is a by-word in the field of Kathak for her name is synonymous with this 2500 year old dance form. A staunch believer in the Guru Shishya parampara, her effort is to equip the students with skill, technique and learning a range of new technical, abhinaya as well as choreographic pieces. The students are encouraged to broaden their experience, to open their minds in order to step outside their comfort zones and appreciate another point of view. The training includes understanding of inter-disciplinary relationships. It encourages appreciation of another genre of thought, practice and approach to dance while developing a healthy regard for history and literature. Her dedication as a guru of excellence can be seen in her disciples who have become acclaimed young dancers of the country. Some have utilized their training in Kathak to shine in related fields of arts.
